If it’s one thing Belgium’s good at, it’s fries self-criticism. And Pieter De Poortere has implemented this in a comically Belgian way: through the medium of comics, or bande dessinées, as they are globally known. And well-known Dickie surely is. Known nationally under the more colloquial name ‘Boerke’, Dickie has been ruffling feathers since 2001, shying away from, well, nothing. The irony, the references and the underlying archetypical Belgitude make for an exceptional subject as special lining. Boerke will definitely be in good company.
